the police here are extremely helpful. this nice cop is pointing me to a bar.
newyoik

brooklyn bridge. excellent bicycle ride over the top.
newyoik

basically each morning while i've been here i went to cafe brown following jon's advice. i would sit and read new york times. this last day, in the sun. tops.
newyoik

this is the drummer from kudu. not only is he mad buff, he is very good, and voted top 20 by drummers' weekly magazine (or something like that). anyway, he was great.
newyoik

this girl was at kudu and was freaking me out a bit. i think she was high, or maybe just an idiot, but she'd constantly be taking photos from her hip, or above her head like this and then reviewing the images, then she'd do it again. and again.
newyoik

o.k. i am very happy. walking through chinatown, thinking how good things are, trying to appreciate the small details in new york that make it great.
newyoik

there are bikes everyewhere. here is like 12 bikes huddling together against the torment that awaits them. Maybe it's like schooling fish, where if they stick together you feel like you are safer. but you're not.
newyoik

deadbike. jesus, you'd start to imagine some sicko is organising these deadbike displays. it's amazing.
newyoik

in the little shop on avenue C . a collection of no less that 4 different types of "doo rag" to buy. yeah
newyoik

as a diabetic, i love americas diet drinks. adam revealed to me that today is the launch day of the most fantastic comboi: diet:cherry:vanilla:dr. pepper. only in america
newyoik

outside the famous plaza hotel. there is a big demonstration to save it from demolition. this is a famous movie director (Peter Bogdanovich) who has directed barbara streissand movies, arguing why it should be kept.. road blocked off, people cheeering, whatnot.
newyoik

ice skating in central park. reggae playing in the background. a few great skaters. i think i prefer the crazy rollerbladers in the summer though
newyoik

central park basically runs from harlem downtown. i rode through it on my way back. amazing to have this kind of space in the middle of this kind of city. yeah
newyoik

riding down through harlem. such a ghrat area. lots of dudes hanging out in and around thier cars. lots of people hagning out on their bulding's front stairs screaming out at each other. even a guy yelling at me "pedal faster"
newyoik

stayed to see a softball game in harlem. match against the martin luther king high and the george washington high.it was great because the street behind me is full of cars blaring spanish music, there's a dominican guy next to me talking about crocidile dundee and austria and people are just chilling in the sun... yeah
newyoik

about a one and a half hour ride up the center of manhattan, i finally reach the end. something like 194th st. very proud.very deep in the world of mulitple languages blending into agrat new york scene
newyoik

george washington high. right at the top of harlem, right at the top of manhattan. new york schools are all protected / patrolled not by security guards but a special division of the police (that's their car out the front, they are guarding the gates to the left)

go harlem. mama's fried chicken.
newyoik

manhattan is divided vertically by enormous avenues. this is a view from harlem, all the way down to the bottom.
newyoik

hello harlem squirrel. somehow tougher than the downtown squirrel.
newyoik

barman at said bar. "can i take your picture?" i say, "sure, i'm not a criminal" he replies. not quite sure the angle this was on, but he seemed very nice.
newyoik

stopped off at this barn in harlem about 143 st. in there was a woman who was getting her car washed next door and was just stopping by to read her pulp fiction novel about the area (the negroe american capital of the world, just meters from this door). also a crew member from the show "law and order" who was organising a shoot here next week.

newyoik

yankee stadium. this is the opening day of the series. other people in new york bars that i know, and saw later this day, are so excited they are going go pop
newyoik

so it's a sunny day in manhattan and i decide to ride from china town (lower east side) to the top of the island (harlem). it's great to see such a diversity of cultures in the same are while doing the trip
newyoik

when it is rainy and cold it is harder to ride around. when it is sunny and nice i'm like "yeah. another great day in el yorko."
newyoik

chinese boy playing in his mom's store at about midnight. because my camera was broken, i couldn't show him the picture, he was a bit miffed i think.
newyoik

hip hop karaoke. this is the view from onstage after crystal and i had finished a pretty unique version of "it's like that" by Run DMC. the whole bar has posed, even the lighting dude in the back.I like the bar tender's pose the most. go hip hop karaoke.
newyoik

street art recursion. this guys has just put one of his paintings up on the wall. he too wants to record this moment for posterity.

this is a new addition to that deadbikesite . this is the wheel of a little kids bike, next to it is the other dead bikes. it seems terrible that a young bike would give up hope so easily and just give up like that.
newyoik

deadbike. this is an old deadbike site.
newyoik

deadbike.
newyoik

man these bikes are not dead but they are totaly having a party.
newyoik

in grand central station there's abooth where individuals can go in and record their stories about new york / interview someone who has stories. it's a beautiful thing.
newyoik

so in this bar in Beacon there's crazy people. they are watchingNASCAR racing and screaming at each other. the barman hates the guy to the left because he is stupid and loud. previosly to this shot, the guy on the left (sitting down) has been yelling "i smoke the best fucking stuff in the area man" (referring to dope i suppose) and then screams "that's a fucking fact" and bangs his hand on the bar and keeps going on and on whole the bar looks away. best bit was when the dude in the leather jacket, standing up, starts paying out a Nascar driver saying he's a pussy and the fuckwit at the end starts saying "that's my fathers name man"... anyway. everything turned out o.k. and we all agreed it was unimportant
newyoik

some minimalist art, despite what the name suggests, is huge. i am inside a huge steel spiral. quite wonderful.
newyoik

again, no photography in the gallery. this toiilet has ample leg room and seemed clean.
newyoik

i went upstate to a town called "beacon". famous for the largest minimalist art gallery on the planet. my problem with minimalist art has always been that there's not enought of it so this was good
newyoik

smoke from the mouth of hell. the fire truck that was had blocked off the street and was parked next to and looking over this hole got on their loud speaker and told me "that's not a great place to hang out kid, move along, move along".
newyoik

deadumbrella. after a very windy night in brooklyn. it's like if birds all of a sudden freaked out and begain to realise they souldn't be able to fly and started to drop to the ground and die. being run over by cars

spooner and al. posing.
newyoik

deadumbrella.
newyoik

deadumbrella. these are like leaves on an oval.
newyoik

deadbike. i don't know what to say. after a while you become immune to the sadness. eaxch new photograph a nail in the coffin of your emotions.
newyoik

deadbike. detail.
newyoik

deadbike. on the street in new york, there's a lot of change. this is the same location of other dead bikes. this one has become confused and lost it's direction. it is doomed. it knows it. we know it. good night.

some pretty graffiti that reminded me of my paintings.i think they are using a combination of spray paint an a paint brush to create a cool combo.
newyoik

this is me infront of some room-installations at a david la chappelle photo exhibitions. i like how my back opack is glowing.
newyoik

meat packing district. the guy in the whitecoat and blue hat is screaming at the dude in the leather jacket. then he looked at me funny when i took the photo.
newyoik

when bikes die, time goes into super slow-motion. if you could speed it up (like those time-lapse photos of plantss) you could see this one, rearing up like a horse, trying to escape.
